FrieslandCampina
Totem Architects has won the architectural competition organised by FrieslandCampina SA to extend its Abidjan offices. The aim of the operation was to increase the capacity of the existing office building on the Yopougon industrial zone site, to enable it to accommodate the company’s African Headquarters.
The project creates a distinct connection between the existing building and the new one. Although designed with clean lines, the latter features a very assertive formal composition that breaks away from the existing structure. The contrast between the two buildings continues in the organisation of their interior spaces. Where the old building has partitioned offices, the new one offers open-plan workspaces with natural light and greenery.
Totem Architects’ proposal stands out from its physical context by playfully incorporating the colours of the FrieslandCampina logo, adding a touch of cheerfulness and lightness to the industrial complex landscape. The project mainly consists of a reception hall and a canteen on the ground floor, with office spaces on the upper floor.
